“…what your subconscious believes, is the difference between success and failure, sickness and health, happiness and unhappiness”
Charles Tebbetts – Self Hypnosis and Other Mind Expanding Techniques
How does hypnotherapy work?
In hypnotherapy you will usually be placed into a deep state of relaxation – known as a trance, your therapist is then able to communicate with your subconscious and is able to make appropriate suggestions that can, for example, enable you to overcome negative habits and ways of thinking by substituting them with new constructive ones.
What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
Hypnotic trance is a normal state of mind and the ability to go into hypnosis is a natural part of human behaviour. The experience you may have will be different to that of other people when they are hypnotised, but it is likely that your body will become pleasantly relaxed and your tensions will disappear. As your nerves and muscles relax, so will your mind and although you may remain aware of the environment that you are in, you do not allow any noises to disturb your state of relaxation.
Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable experience. You cannot be made to do something against your will and a professional hypnotherapist would not try to make you do so.
When you are being hypnotised, you are not ‘trapped’ in a state of hypnosis and you can come back to complete consciousness at any time you wish to.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on you and what it is that you want to change. At the first session the hypnotherapist will discuss the issues with you and will decide on which approach and the maximum number of sessions it may take.
Simple problems like smoking may need only one session. More complicated cases are likely to require additional treatments, this be discussed at the first session.
